A
Singing Swinging Seder & Haroset Making Fest
One of the great dramas of the Jewish people is the story
of the exodus from Egypt. The Haggadah, our guide for the
Pesach Seder, offers the possibility to teach the story through
a wonderful songfest.
Of all the things on the Seder plate, Haroset, a nutty
fruity mixture, is the one that we most like to eat.
The Haroset
symbolizes the mortar that the Israelite slaves made for
bricks in Egypt, and we combine it with the Maror (bitter
herbs) to lessen the bitter taste. Recipes for Haroset
abound.
This program will begin with a songfest
and culminate in preparing and
sampling Haroset recipes from around the world.
Shavuot: Harvest and Torah
How do the giving of Torah, the story of Ruth, the Israeli
wheat harvest, and dairy dishes all meet within the festival
of Shavuot? By the end of this workshop you will know the
answer to this and many other questions about one of the
most ancient and beautiful of the Jewish holidays.
Tishrei Storytelling
Rosh Hashana, Yom Kippur, Sukkot and Simchat Torah are a
time of sincereity and commitment to Jewish values. What
does it mean to be mensch? What does it mean to know how
to share? Ask for forgiveness? Rescpect your piers? These
questions will be visited through storytelling.
Chanuka: The festival of Lights
The story of Chanukah will be told through song and movement.
This program is sure to brighten your holiday.
Hip-Hop Chanukah
Like a Hammer or a Mac-a- Bee, Break it down, let yourself
go, run with a beat and find a tempo.
Hip-Hop Chanukah will take your de-light-ful poetry to
the max with rhythm and holiday vibe as you are exposed
to the
artful creations of a Jewish hip-hop master/poet and have
the opportunity to rhyme your own lines.
Purim: Masks/Puppetry
The Megillah (scroll) of Esther is filled with plots and
twists, heroes and villains:
courageous and beautiful Esther, righteous Mordechai, the
extravagant and foolish King Ahashverosh, feisty Vashti and,
of course, despicable Haman. These characters will provide
inspiration for a
dramatic reenactment and the creation of puppets/masks.
Tu’Bshvat, A holiday for the
Trees
Celebrate the New Year of Trees the way they do in Israel.
Families will have the opportunity to pot their own plant,
play Tree Tales, Paper Bag dramatics, and conduct an
abbreviated Seder/Celebration where we sample special
Israeli holiday
fruits.
