BALLAD OF THE SEDER PLATE

Written by: Betty Ann Ross
MELODY: OLD MACDONALD

There's a plate upon our table
Spaces it has five
Each one filled with something special
Let us tell you why
          On our table
          Spaces five
          Something special
          Here is why
There's a plate upon our table
Spaces it has five

Roasted bone and roasted egg
Remind us of our past
How the Jews left Pharoah's land
Left it very fast
          Roasted bone and
          Roasted egg
          We left Egypt
          Leg by leg
There's a plate upon our table
Spaces it has five

Something green upon the plate
Parsley is the thing
Soon we'll dip and then we'll eat
Now we know it's spring

Soon we'll eat the bitter herb
It makes us feel so sad
Reminds us of the bitter times
Jews in Egypt had
          Bitter herb and
          Parsley green
          Roasted bone and
          Roasted egg
There's a plate upon our table
Spaces it has five

There's a mixture brown and red
Haroset is its name
Looks like bricks Jews had to make
Wasn't that a shame
Haroset sweet is quite a treat
          Bitter herb and parsley green
          Roasted bone and roasted egg
All the symbols now we've seen
There's a plate upon our table
Spaces it has five
