Recommendations
While the days before Rosh Hashanah are extraordinarily busy, in the wake of
the World Trade Center terrorist attack the JCRC strongly recommends the following
activities:
- Synagogues, schools and Jewish organizations should organize small delegations
to visit local police stations and fire houses to offer condolences for their
fallen colleagues, to thank them for risking their lives and for their monumental
rescue effort at the World Trade Center site. The New York City Police Foundation
has developed the "United We Stand Campaign" to offer individuals
the opportunity to express their feelings regarding this tragedy. The "United
We Stand" logo is attached. You can print this out on your own letterhead
and have people sign it.
- Teachers can have school children write:
- messages to the police and fire department and all rescue workers;
- messages to the victims and their families;
- images of unity (art, poetry, etc.); or
- messages to the rest of the country and the world about the incredible
cooperation going on in New York. The Police Foundation is collecting
such messages to convey to the rescue workers.
- UJA-Federation is taking contributions to be dedicated towards the World
Trade Center relief effort to assist all victims of the attack and their families.
